Assessment of the effectiveness and impact of curriculum integration is built into the grant processes. Information from on-line surveys and focus groups will be gathered to better understand students’ barriers to study abroad and to better assist faculty and advisers as they address these issues.

University of Minnesota - Campus breakdowns

Statistics are collected on study abroad enrollments for each University of Minnesota campus. In addition, data on students' time to graduation are compiled.

Time to Graduation Data

Data from the University's Institutional Research and Reporting showing study abroad graduation
rates by GPA, college, ethnicity, and academic readiness:

Surveys
Surveys are developed to obtain data from academic advisers, faculty, and undergraduate students, giving those broad-based constituencies the opportunity to identify issues regarding study abroad. The web-based surveys determine openness to study abroad, perceptions about the role of study abroad in higher education and careers, and barriers to study abroad. The surveys are also be used to evaluate the progress of the study abroad curriculum integration work.

Focus Groups
Focus groups are also being used as part of the evaluation methodology. Focus group questions have been piloted in order to collect qualitative data from students who have studied abroad, students who have not studied abroad, and students of color. Focus group instruments are available for all four campuses to use with their student populations.

Grant Reports
Reports submitted to the Archibald Bush Foundation and FIPSE are provided in pdf format.

Product Assessment
Built into the Bush Foundation grant process is an ongoing assessment of new advising tools and methods. In addition to regular meetings with members of the four working groups, an instrument has been developed for use with faculty and staff, and another instrument allows students to evaluate program selection resources.

Workshop Evaluation
Throughout the process, evaluations were conducted for various activities for faculty and advisers. An overview of 2002–03 event evaluations (pdf) provides further insight.
