Goal
To stimulate diversity in University of Minnesota learning abroad programs.

Eligibility Criteria
Students must be University of Minnesota, Twin Cities degree-seeking undergraduate students. Applicants should enhance diversity in study abroad programs. Diversity is defined broadly to include geographic, academic, or ethnic diversity, outstanding special skills and/or talents, outstanding leadership achievements, unique work or service experience, and outstanding or extensive community involvement. Preference is given to students of color and international students seeking experiences in a new culture.

Application Process
If you are applying for the Twin Cities Diversity Scholarship, please submit an essay of no more than 450–500 words. (This essay should be separate from the essay for the UMTC University-Wide Study Abroad Scholarship.) In the essay, answer the following questions:

  • How do you anticipate that study abroad will impact a) you as a person, b) your academic goals, and c) your long-term
    goals?
  • Why did you select the program listed on your application and how are you preparing for your experience?
  • Describe the unique qualities you possess (i.e., ethnic/cultural diversity, special skills or talents, unique work or life experience, leadership achievements, or community involvement) and how those unique qualities would contribute to the diversity of your study abroad program.

Because of a limited number of Diversity Scholarships, you are encouraged to also apply for other Learning Abroad Center administered scholarships.
