    Program Name: CIEE Country (City)
    Sponsor: CIEE

Program Track/Host Institution: If your program has more than one track (e.g. Liberal Arts, Business and Culture, Service-Learning, etc.), list the track you are applying for.

  • College Transcript
Submit an unofficial copy from each college or university you have attended.
  • CIEE Home School Nomination Form pdf
Complete only the top half. Write your full name on the top right hand corner of the second page.  The rest will be completed by the Learning Abroad Center on the Twin Cities campus and forwarded to CIEE on your behalf.

Complete and submit the following pieces to CIEE:

  • CIEE Application
You must complete and submit the majority of your application online.  After creating your My CIEE account, review and print the online application instructions located under the "Apply Study" link.  In addition to completing the online portion, you will need to print out the Home School Nomination and Evaluation Forms and forward to the appropriate people to complete. Mail your official transcript(s), completed evaluation forms, photos, and other program-specific materials (if applicable) directly to CIEE in Portland, Maine. You do not need to include the home school nomination form because you will submit it to the Learning Abroad Center. It is your responsibility to check your My CIEE web page and remain in contact with CIEE to be certain that your application is complete by the application deadline. Learning Abroad Center's deadlines are earlier than CIEE's published deadlines to allow us time to forward the Home School Nomination Form to CIEE before their published deadline.
  • Personal Statement
This is completed and submitted online as part of the CIEE application. See CIEE instructions for additional requirements for selected sites.
  • Official Transcript(s)
  • Two Evaluation Forms pdf
(One for summer programs. Some sites have additional requirements; refer to CIEE application for special instructions.)
  • Six Passport Photos
(Some sites require additional photos; refer to CIEE application instructions for details.)
  • Application Fee
You do not need to pay the $30 application fee. CIEE has waived this fee for University of Minnesota students. You also do not need to pay the $340 school of record fee, since this transcript processing service is already covered by your University of Minnesota program fee.
  • Scholarship Application/Financial Aid Administrator Form
(Optional) If you are applying for CIEE scholarships, you must first meet with the Office of Student Finance (612.624.1111 for Twin Cities students) or your home campus' financial aid office to complete this form and submit the form directly to CIEE. Under item #4, check the "CIEE Program Fee plus Home School Administrative Fee" box. Program fees are listed on CIEE's fees website.  You may mail the CIEE Scholarship application separately from your program application.

Eligibility Requirements
This program is open to University of Minnesota students who are sophomores and above, although some sites may require junior status. Students meeting the listed criteria are qualified to apply for this program.

Please see the individual program's description on CIEE's website for eligibility requirements.

Application Deadlines

Submit complete applications to the Learning Abroad Center according to the appropriate deadline:

University of Minnesota students must submit their applications to CIEE and the Learning Abroad Center two weeks prior to published CIEE deadlines.  CIEE's deadline dates are available online

For most programs, applicants are reviewed as they are submitted. We strongly encourage you to apply early in order to ensure that your application receives consideration. Some programs may have a waiting list.

Next Steps

Here's what to expect after submitting your application to the Learning Abroad Center:

  1. The Learning Abroad Center sends an email notification to confirm your application has been received.
  2. The Learning Abroad Center emails you to request any missing items if your application is incomplete.
  3. Once the Learning Abroad Center has reviewed your completed application, we will email you with your status. This email will contain important instructions to follow after you have received your acceptance notice from your university/co-sponsor.
  4. The university/co-sponsor emails you with a final decision regarding your acceptance into the program. This can take a week to several months.
  5. If accepted, follow the instructions outlined in the Learning Abroad Center email referred to in Step #3. You need to pay a program deposit to the Learning Abroad Center. (Do not pay a deposit to your university/co-sponsor.)
  6. Submit additional information and materials if requested by the university/co-sponsor.
  7. If you choose not to participate in the program, email your Learning Abroad Center program contact and your university/co-sponsor contact.

University of Minnesota Program Fee
Students participating on cosponsored programs are charged a University of Minnesota program fee, which is inclusive of the cosponsor's program fee, the University of Minnesota fee, and international health insurance. Based on these additional services and benefits, the fee is $500-1,000 higher than the program sponsor's published fee. The University of Minnesota fee covers the cost of application processing, advising services, orientation, course registration, grade transfer and posting for resident credit, and assistance with financial aid when applicable.
