IRSEP Responsibilities

You should be certain that you can complete the IRSEP participation requirements before submitting your application:

Before Departure

  • Enroll as a full-time University of Minnesota student for the entire academic year
  • Initiate or continue appropriate language studies
  • Attend two mandatory orientation sessions
  • Work with the returned student and international student to prepare for time abroad
While Overseas
  • Represent the University of Minnesota abroad
  • Pursue an appropriate course of study
  • Participate in host country student and community life
  • Submit monthly reports of experiences abroad
  • Serve as a resource person regarding IRSEP, the University of Minnesota, and your host country
Upon Return
  • Submit a final report based on your time abroad
  • Enroll as a University of Minnesota student for the entire academic year
  • Participate in recruitment activities including study abroad fairs and classroom presentations
  • Serve as the primary contact for program details with contact information provided to interested applicants
  • Assist in the selection of the new IRSEP exchangee(s)
  • Participate in the formal orientation of the new IRSEP exchangee(s) by attending two orientation sessions
  • Manage the informal orientation of the new IRSEP exchangee(s)
  • Work with the international student, possibly picking them up at the airport
