Description
Gain practical, hands-on experience through internships in agriculture, horticulture, agribusiness, and related areas. The Minnesota Agricultural Student Trainee (MAST) Experience Abroad program offers a cross-cultural experience living and working with a host family in another culture.

Curriculum
Credit must be arranged independently. Internships primarily offer practical training at agricultural sites such as farms, greenhouses, nurseries, etc.

Eligibility & Application
Open to freshmen and above, and graduate students. Must have minimum six months practical experience in the placement area. Application deadline is four months prior to departure.

Estimated Cost
2002-03: $400. Other costs vary based on country, length of program, and placement. Participants generally receive free room, board, and a stipend, depending on the placement and country. Cost includes MAST program fees. Airfare, tuition, personal expenses additional. MAST scholarships available.

Financial Aid & Scholarships
Most financial aid may be applied to study abroad. In addition, University of Minnesota students are eligible for more than $500,000 in study abroad scholarships. Visit the financial resources web page for additional information on using financial aid and scholarships for study abroad.
