About the Program
International Reciprocal Student Exchange Program (IRSEP) offers a full scholarship to study abroad in six different countries. It is the oldest continuous exchange program at the University of Minnesota and primarily offers opportunities to study at non-traditional destinations around the world. Founded by students in 1952, it is still characterized by active student participation exemplified by a three year commitment. IRSEP Scholarship Exchanges provide the opportunity to spend an academic year studying in China, Ecuador, Germany, Iceland, Malaysia, and Tanzania. Note: The Tanzania scholarship is currently suspended.

Instruction is in Chinese by Chinese faculty at Nankai University's College of Chinese Culture and Literature.
Housing
& Meals
Housing is arranged in a University dormitory, generally in double
rooms with another international student. Meals are provided in
student cafeterias. The scholarship covers the cost of the dormitory
and a food stipend.
Excursions & Social Activities
Nankai University in located in Tianjin, the third largest urban area in China, and offers access to all that the city has to offer. Past IRSEP students have traveled to Shanghai, Beijing, and throughout the country.
