Description
France’s capital is a fascinating city full of cafés, museums, and theatres that provide its visitors with enough activities and sites to see for a lifetime. Often considered as a separate entity from the rest of France, this bustling city offers many opportunities to experience the essence of France and the French culture of the provinces, while maintaining a very cosmopolitan atmosphere. In and around Paris, magnificent examples of Romanesque and Gothic art and architecture can be found, all of which help tell the story of France’s rich history.
Curriculum
Study the origin, development, and character of Gothic art and
architecture in Northern France, with a special focus on monuments in and near Paris. Knowledge of French is not required.
This course has been approved for the International Perspectives
theme and Arts and Humanities core.
Faculty Leader
Professor John Steyaert has taught at the University of Minnesota
since 1971. He specializes in 14th and 15th Century Gothic sculpture
and painting in France and the Lowlands.
