About the Program
Surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the Lake District and Irish Sea, the historic city of Lancaster boasts a Norman castle, elegant Georgian buildings, and cobblestone streets. The University of Lancaster is located on the outskirts of town, on park land overlooking the sea. Covered walkways connect the academic, residential, sports, social, and recreational facilities; a complex of buildings and services—shops, banks, travel agents, and restaurants—border the main square and the central meeting place of the university. The residence halls, or "colleges," serve as the main focus for student social life. Each has its own study lounge and may also house computer labs, snack bars, game rooms, and other facilities.
The University of Lancaster is one of the United Kingdoms most highly ranked and well respected universities, known for its innovative curricula and esteemed faculty. You may choose from the universitys wide variety of courses in almost every discipline, allowing you to create a broad and diverse curriculum, or further study in your major. Lancaster is well-known for the sciences and also has a strong social science curriculum. The university is a particularly accepting and welcoming place to live and study. Through small group teaching, personal attention from faculty and staff, and the multitude of student clubs and organizations, you will soon feel at home in this close-knit campus community.

Faculty and staff at the University of Lancaster are particularly accessible and supportive. Students will work closely with the International Office at Lancaster before and during their experience. Additionally, each department has a faculty adviser who is responsible for counseling study abroad students. The extensive network of advising and support services is designed to help you adjust to a new educational system and integrate into campus life.
The International Office organizes an orientation for study abroad students upon arrival. You will receive information about campus, facilities, clubs, and the British educational system. This is also when students consult with faculty on courses and register.
Housing
& Meals
Students live in single rooms with their own bathroom and
shared kitchen facilities in on-campus residence halls called "colleges,"
with other British and international students. There is no meal
plan; students generally prepare their own meals in the residence
halls or eat at the restaurants on campus. Colleges are strong communities
within the university system in Britain. The "en-suite"
accommodation is included in the program fee.
