This program appeals to students who are interested in studying abroad in English or need to fulfill major or liberal arts requirements.

Academic Structure

Program type: The Lancaster program is a university study. Participants study alongside British students. Instruction is in English by British faculty.

Level: Various levels.

Term: Fall semester, spring semester, academic year.

Prerequisites: Sophomores and above, 2.75 GPA.

Courseload: 12-32 credits.

Coursework

Lancaster University is on a trimester system. Academic year students will register for Lancaster's Michaelmas, Lent, and Summer terms. Spring semester students register for Lancaster's Lent and Summer terms. Fall semester students will register for Lancaster's Michaelmas term and the optional 4-credit pre-session program which is intended to be combined with fall semester to equal a full semester of credit (16 credits). Students who register for only Michaelmas will earn 12 credits from Lancaster. Global Identity: Connecting Your International Experience with Your Future
This 1-credit online course will help you:

  1. process your overseas experience and apply what you learn upon your return
  2. understand intercultural lingo and relate it to your experience
  3. reflect on the multiple layers of cross-cultural experiences
  4. market your study abroad experience for future career goals.

Pre-Session
Pre-session courses take place before fall semester and are designed to enhance your knowledge of British history and culture. Choose one 4-credit course from the following: Changing Places—Lancaster and the Lake District: Historical, Geographical, and Cultural Perspectives; This Scepter’d Isle: Aspects of British History and Culture; and The World About Us: Explorations in the History, Principles, and Applications of Science. Independent Research
Study abroad students are able to do independent research projects for credit. The project provides a unique opportunity to work closely with a Lancaster faculty member who is an acknowledged leader in the field of study. The number of credits granted depends on the quality and scope of the project, as well as the amount of time required. Inquire with the Lancaster program team in the Learning Abroad Center if you are interested in this option.
