Confirmation Checklist

Follow this checklist to confirm your place in the program.

Note: If you plan to use financial aid (loans, grants, scholarships) to cover costs for your study abroad experience, you are encouraged to schedule a financial aid preview meeting prior to submitting your confirmation deposit.

Complete the 3-step orientation:

Passport & Visa: All students must have a valid passport and visa in order to enter France

  • If you already have a passport, make sure that it is valid for the duration of the program, as well as up to six months after your return
  • If you do not have a passport, apply for one as soon as possible; go to Travel Documents for more information
  • All semester and academic year students are required to apply for a visa; refer to the Visa Instructions for Study Abroad in Montpellier for further information

Be sure to refer to your acceptance email to verify the track for which you were accepted. Refer to the Academics section for a list of courses available on each track.

Academic Planning Form (University of Minnesota–Twin Cities Students Only)


The French Department holds a special session at the Montpellier pre-departure orientation to discuss French major/minor credit and course equivalencies. Students planning to apply coursework taken on the Montpellier program to a French major or minor should wait for this special session and submit the Academic Planning Form after this meeting.

Housing Deposit
Students placed in apartments and the Observatoire are billed for a $500 refundable apartment deposit. This deposit is billed to your University of Minnesota student finance account, and you must pay this deposit. Your home institution does not pay this fee. A refund, minus any damage expenses, are issued to you approximately 3–6 months after the program ends.
