Fees

The program fee* has not yet been determined.  Global Seminars program fees are usually $3,000-$5,000.

*The program fee includes tuition, program administration, housing, arrival and farewell meals, international health insurance, and local transportation. Some program fees include group flight airfare. See the Flights information below for more details. Students must also budget for passport and passport photos, most meals, textbooks, independent travel, and miscellaneous living expenses.

Some Global Seminar program fees include group flight airfare while others do not. See the Flights information below for flight details for your program.

The program fees and fees for subsequent years are based on estimates and may change depending on international economic factors.

*Students on Global Seminars with the flight included in the program fee:
You will book your flight through Village Travel and the cost of the flight will be included in the program fee charged to your University of Minnesota student account. Transportation to and from the airport will be included in your program fee.

**Students on Global Seminars without the flight included in the program fee:
You will be responsible for booking your own flight to and from the designated arrival airport. You will have the option of booking the suggested flight through Village Travel or finding your own flight through another travel agency or air carrier. The suggested flight on the Village Travel website will show you the designated arrival and departure dates as well as the designated arrival airport. The suggested flight for winter break programs will be posted mid to late October.

If you elect to purchase the suggested flight or if the flight you purchase arrives and departs at the same time as the suggested flight, transportation to and from the airport will be provided. If you do not take the suggested flight or the flight you purchase does not arrive and depart at the same time as the suggested flight, you will be responsible for arranging your own transport from the airport to the designated housing and back to the airport on the departure date.

If you are participating in a Global Seminars that does not have the flight included in the program fee, you will need to use your own funds to pay for the flight as the cost of the flight is not included in the program fee and will not be charged through your University of Minnesota student account. However, if you plan to use financial aid, the cost of your flight will be included on your Study Abroad Cost Estimate and will be factored into your financial aid package. Please read the information on Financial Aid for Study Abroad carefully.

All students must arrive by the designated start date of the program. No late arrivals or early departures are allowed.

Once the suggested flight is posted on the Village Travel website, we urge all students to book their flights as early as possible. Students on Winter Break programs must book their flight and submit their itinerary to the Learning Abroad Center by Nov. 15.

Students on May Term programs must book their flight and submit their itinerary to the Learning Abroad Center by April 15. Again, once the suggested flight is posted on the Village Travel website we urge all students to book their flights as early as possible.

Financial Aid & Scholarships
Most financial aid may be applied to study abroad. In addition, University of Minnesota students are eligible for more than $300,000 in study abroad scholarships, including $500 Global Seminar scholarships. There is a variety of financial resources available for study abroad students. Scholarship applications can be downloaded here.

Payments
A non-refundable deposit is due upon acceptance into the program and is applied toward the program fee. You will receive email notification from the Learning Abroad Center that the balance of the program fees have been billed to your student finance account approximately one month before the University of Minnesota term begins (August for fall semester and academic year; December for winter break and spring semester; and May for May session and summer session). You will receive official notification of billing and payment due dates from the Office of Student Finance (OSF) via your University of Minnesota email account. All payments are made to the OSF.

Please note that the University of Minnesota requires all non-degree students, including students from other institutions who are participating in a University of Minnesota study abroad program, to pay their University of Minnesota study abroad charges in full no later than the first billing due date for the term. Payment must be received, not postmarked (if sent by mail), by the first billing due date, or you will be cancelled from the study abroad program, will not receive credit, and cannot be re-enrolled in the program.

For further details on your financial responsibilities, see the Know Before You Go handbook (pdf) and the Learning Abroad Center's Cancellation Policy.
