Coursework
This Global Seminar will introduce students specifically to Dubai and more generally to the United Arab Emirates and the greater Middle East Region. The course will explore Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi with the purpose of exposing the students to these three Emirates to the point where they can fully appreciate the similarities and differences between them.
Through lectures, readings, excursions, and various cultural activities students learn about the unique place Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi have in the global market. Students will review the current marketing strategies to gain a better understanding of how each Emirate is being created in the public's eye and the underpinnings of their success.
Prior to departure, students attend a pre-departure orientation and receive pre-departure readings and assignments. Classes consist of lectures, discussions, journaling, and excursions. Students will complete a final reflection assignment.
For more information see last year's course syllabus. Last year's syllabus is intended to give you an idea of the program excursions, assignments, and readings. The course has changed from last year, though, and this year's syllabus will be different.
This course has been approved for the International Perspectives theme.
