If you do not want to maintain your registration at the University of Minnesota or use financial aid, scholarships, or grants (administered through the Office of Student Finance) then you do not need to use the Outside Program process.
Instead, in order to ensure you are not dropped as an enrolled University of Minnesota student, fill out a leave of absence form with your academic advisor.
Please note if you are studying abroad during May term or the summer session, you are not required to submit a leave of absence form.
If there is a portion of your study abroad program's application that needs a signature from someone at the University of Minnesota, you may still bring it to the Learning Abroad Center for the Outside Program adviser to fill out.
