Private Donor Support

Eligibility and Application Instructions

The following is a list of scholarships that come from privately funded sources. There is one application that is submitted for all of these awards, and graduate students are considered for the awards listed below, based on eligibility criteria.

To apply, complete the application for the Learning Abroad Center's Study Abroad ScholarshipDiversity Study Abroad Scholarship, and/or Financial Need Early Planning Scholarship.  Recipients will be selected from applicants for these three awards.

Learning Abroad Alumni Fund

One (1) or more award(s) of $1,000 annually for any of the following terms: fall semester, spring semester, academic year.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who are enrolled on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus and will be participating in a Learning Abroad Center Program.

Billman Family International Scholarship Fund

One (1) or more award(s) of $1,000 annually—preference given to global seminars.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate and graduate students who are from the state of Minnesota and enrolled on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.

Cairn Fund

Two (2) awards of $2,000 annually.

Eligibility

Open to full-time undergraduate students enrolled on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus participating in a Learning Abroad Center program who demonstrate academic merit.

Lisa A. Damon & Gregg E. Lauderdale Scholarship

At least one (1) award annually of at least $2,000.

Eligibility

Open to University of Minnesota- Twin Cities full-time undergraduate students participating on a semester or summer study abroad program.

Gerald B. & Catherine L. Fischer Study Abroad Scholarship

At least one (1) award annually of at least $1,000.

Eligibility

Open to University of Minnesota full-time undergraduate students who show academic promise and intend to study abroad as part of their undergraduate experience. Preference is given to new students (freshmen and transfer).

Joshua and James Haglund Memorial Peace Scholarship

At least one (1) award annually of $1,200.

Eligibility

Open to University of Minnesota undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Preference given to students going to Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, or Vietnam.

Glenn L. Hendricks International Study Fund

One (1) or more award(s) of $1,200 annually for fall or spring semester and $2,000 for academic year

Eligibility

Open to UofM undergraduate, graduate, and professional students studying at a tertiary institution abroad (i.e. direct enroll).

Carole Y. and James G. Hynes Global Scholarship Fund

One (1) award of $1,000 annually—preference given to students participating on programs in Montpellier, France.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.

Judee Kleffman Memorial Scholarship

One (1) award of $1,000 annually for spring semester.

Eligibility

Open to all University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus undergraduate, degree-seeking students participating on a Minnesota Studies in International Development (MSID) program.

Parliament International Travel Endowment Scholarship

One (1) award annually of $1,000 (with preference of semester programs).

Eligibility

Open to full-time undergraduate or graduate students on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus participating on Learning Abroad Center programs listed on major advising pages of CEHD & CFANS. Preference will be given to students affiliated with CEHD & CFANS.

Angel Ruiz Lillo Friendship Scholarship

One (1) award annually of $2,000.

Eligibility

Open to full-time undergraduate or graduate students on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus participating on Learning Abroad Center programs to Spain who demonstrate financial need.

Elizabeth Tegen Scholarship for Undergraduate Global Learning

One (1) award annually of $1,000.

Eligibility

Open to full-time undergraduate students on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus participating in Learning Abroad Center program who demonstrate academic merit. Preference will be given to students who are first generation students. Additional preference will be given to students who will contribute to student body diversity.

Patrice L. Webster Scholarship

One (1) award annually for $1,000—preference given to students participating on programs in France for a summer or semester.
