Ghana Global Seminar. As a theatre major, she enjoyed the chance to see art in
a new culture and learn from Ghanaian artists.

setting up girls' clubs with Ghana Education Service.

K. Does Global Seminars in Ghana & Italy
Melissa participated in two Global Seminar courses: Music and Culture
in Ghana, and Renaissance Architecture, Sculpture, and Painting in Florence. She
found that doing coursework abroad gave her a broader perspective on her studies.

Eliesa studied for a year in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She came to understand the
challenges of higher education in a developing country, and enjoyed the opportunity
to travel and experience other countries in Africa.

Eric studied at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania for a year on the IRSEP scholarship exchange program.

studying paleoanthropology. She learned about technical aspects of her field while
experiencing a new culture and working with Kenyan professionals.

and interned in rural Kisumu with an organization that educates Kenyans on health
issues.

Craig Studies in Senegal
Craig, an African Studies and French major, was able to continue his research on the region of West Africa by studying abroad through the IRSEP Scholarship Exchange Program in Senegal.
Alek
C. Studies Development in Senegal
Alek spent a year in Senegal with the MSID program. His internship with
a national water resource management organization
and the program's coursework in international development matched well with his
major and his career goals.

Liz spent a year in Dakar, Senegal, where she studied and taught English classes
at a local school. Her experience reinforced her commitment to teaching, and allowed
her to gain professional experience in a new cultural context.

Through the IRSEP Senegal program, Terri was able to study a variety of topics at three different universities. Interning for Human Rights Watch was a particularly important part of her experience, which strengthened her determination to pursue a career in international human rights.

to La Plata, where she interned as an English teacher, and later she studied in
Buenos Aires along with Argentine students.

Abroad Minor also helped her make the most of a cultural immersion experience.

Santhi went abroad twice: first to the Dominican Republic and then to Nicaragua.
Her summer experiences helped her focus her career goal of working with hospitals
in the developing world.

Through the year-long MSID program in Ecuador, Craig C. was able to complete an internship within his Physiology major while also receiving credits towards his Spanish major.

First with the MSID program in Ecuador, then on an internship with the State Department
in Peru, and finally spending a year in studying in Santiago, Chile, Carrie has
traveled extensively in South America. She is now pursuing a career as a U.S.
Foreign Service officer, hoping to become an ambassador someday!

Erika spent half of her semester in the capital city of Quito, and half in rural Ecuador, where she interned at a health center. As a biology major, this experience had a profound impact on her career goals.

both in Quito and the Cotacachi area in rural Ecuador. She gained experience working
with a non-governmental organization, and studying culture and development.

to learn about the cultures of Latin America, which is her area focus.

Jake's love of nature and his interest in international business came together in his semester in Melbourne, Australia.

goals, while also enjoying the natural beauty of Australia and New Zealand.

Alyssa lived and studied for a year in TianJin through the IRSEP Scholarship Exchange Program in China. Her classes were taught in Chinese in an international classroom setting where she focused on her Asian Language and Literatures major. Alyssa spent her free time learning about the culture by participating in traditional festivities and talking with locals.

J. Studies Chinese in Tianjin, China
Hannah's ability to communicate in Chinese improved greatly after a year in Tianjin.
Her experience taught her that she can accomplish anything she puts her mind to.
Nick H. Studies in China
Having already studied in Beijing, Nick chose to spend a year in Tianjin to get the feel of a smaller, less international Chinese city. Nick was able to befriend a range of people, from migrant workers in the Gobi desert to the landlord in the apartment he shared with his German roommate.

Through the Minnesota Studies and International Development program in India, Anthropology and English major Erin combined Hindi language classes with an internship at a local tribal land rights organization.

Phuoc took marketing and Japanese language courses in Tokyo at Sophia
University. He took advantage of the opportunity to see his marketing major at
work in another cultural setting, and enjoyed traveling and living with a host
family.
Malaysia

Mike Q. , German and Marketing Major, Studies in Malaysia
Mike, a German and Marketing major, spent an academic year in Malaysia through the IRSEP Scholarship Exchange Program studying alongside local students. A highlight from his experience included performing a traditional Malaysian dance in front of over 3,000 people.

Ted did a scholarship exchange to the University of Sains Malaysia in Penang.
He enjoyed the challenge of learning a new language, got involved in social issues,
and ended up with a summer internship in Thailand.

studies. She spent a semester in Daegu, South Korea, where she explored culture
through course work and interactions with South Korean students.

L. goes on Global Seminars to Thailand & Italy
Bee traveled for three weeks during two May sessions. As an art and art history
major, Bee learned about art history in its natural setting. As a Hmong-American
student, she visited the country where her family once lived. Her experiences
helped her grow personally and professionally.
Deborah
P. Does a Global Seminar in Thailand
Deborah's first study abroad experience took place during her Ph.D. program. She
learned about Thai history and culture in the seminar, and then went on to intern
with the government's education reform office.

Mary is a marketing major who spent a semester in Copenhagen on the Denmark's International Study program. She was able to study her field through traveling to businesses and landmarks in the area.

lived with a Danish architect, who helped Nora gain a real world perspective on
her career.

history major and French minor. The experience opened him to a new way of looking

Kaitlin spent three weeks in Amsterdam learning about ethical tolerance and the
political process. She also found time to learn about the local arts scene, and
furthered her interest in social justice.

Gina spent a semester in Toledo gaining academic credit for her Spanish major.
She also held an internship with a school for recently arrived immigrants, which
allowed her to experience Spanish culture in a unique way.

He also interned as a columnist for Toledo's newspaper, La Tribuna.
